Zoo future a concern without vet - friend

6:02 am on 6 May 2012

A sponsor of the zoo where an elephant killed its keeper last week is deeply concerned about its future.

The elephant crushed Helen Schofield, 42, at the Franklin Zoo and Wildlife Sanctuary, south of Auckland.

The zoo has announced it will close while the Department of Labour carries out an investigation that could take up to six months.

Florence Davies, who was friends with Ms Schofield, says she has contributed more than $50,000 to the zoo and is sending another donation to help it now.

Ms Davies says she hopes it will re-open, but if no one can be found to replace Ms Schofield, it will be hard to keep going.
