Ducks favoured by weather

3:34 pm on 7 May 2012

Fine weather left some hunters empty-handed after the first weekend of the duckshooting season.

Otago Fish and Game says calm weather is the duck hunter's enemy, as wind and the occasional shower are what make the birds fly lower.

Operations manager Ian Hadland says the number of ducks killed in southern and western Otago was below average, though most hunters got at least a few.

But in central Otago and Maniatoto, some hunters were close to the legal limit before midday on Saturday.
