Minister seeks report on Auckland ticket project delays

The Minister of Transport is calling for a report on delays in the $98 million project to introduce a single public transport ticketing system in Auckland.

The Government is funding the majority of the integrated ticketing system due to be rolled out at the end of the year.

A trial of the HOP system has slipped from April to as late as September.

While the core part serving trains and ferries is ready to trial, Wellington-based Snapper has yet to make its rival system, used by NZ Bus, fully compliant.

Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee has discussed the issue with Auckland mayor Len Brown, who wants an assurance there will be no further delays.

Mr Brownlee was meeting Transport Agency officials on Wednesday to and seek more detail about the likely timeframe for the system's introduction.
