Search continues for missing tramper

9:00 pm on 10 May 2012

The search will continue Friday for a missing Dunedin tramper, although police say they are losing hope of finding him alive.

Search teams have been looking since Sunday for David Palmer, 53, who entered the Ahuriri Valley near Wanaka on Saturday for what was believed to be a four hour tramp at most.

About 24 people searched a beech forest near the Dingleburn Track on Thursday while 11 others combed the track itself.

Police say small items of interest have been found, which they hope to verify as being linked to Mr Palmer.

They say a search team of about 35 will cover the highest point in the search area on Friday, Mt Gladwish, as well as steep gorges and waterways.
