Housing NZ urged to extend deadline

9:41 am on 12 May 2012

Labour MP Grant Robertson is calling on Housing New Zealand to extend its deadline to relocate tenants of a central Wellington apartment block.

Housing New Zealand has told 130 tenants at the Gordon Wilson flats on The Terrace that they will be moved because parts of the building are at risk of falling down.

Mr Robertson says the one week time frame the tenants were given is too short and Housing New Zealand should be more flexible.

The Wellington Central MP says some residents have medical problems and he does not want them moved a long way from their doctors or schools simply because of the tight deadline.

A spokesperson for Housing New Zealand says it has no plans to extend the deadline.
