A Government programme to insulate, and make more energy efficient, New Zealand homes has now upgraded 150,000 homes.

The programme funds through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority homeowners to get ceilings and floors insulated in homes built before 2000.

The Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart initiative is the result of a memorandum of understanding between the Government and the Green Party, and its relationship accord with the Maori Party.

Energy Minister Phil Heatley says the programme has made people aware of the benefits of insulation and has increased demand for it.
