A man is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Friday in connection with the killing of a man as he went to the aid of a woman in central Auckland.
The businessman was trying to help a woman who had been assaulted in Mills Lane at 5.30pm on Thursday when he was stabbed to death.
After an Armed Offenders Squad raid in Otahuhu at 4.30am, a man, 45, is due in court charged with assault.
Police say he's likely to face more serious charges as the investigation progresses.
The victim was Austin Bernard Hemmings, 45, of Devonport, who is survived by his wife and three teenage children.
But both he and the woman who he was trying to help, worked in the same building, the BNZ Tower.
