Marineland group still hopeful despite court setback

The group fighting to re-open Marineland, in Napier, says it still believes the marine park can be saved.

The High Court in Napier on Thursday dismissed the group's application for a judicial review of Napier City Council's decision in 2008 to close Marineland to the public.

Justice Mallon ruled that council consultation was adequate.

Friends of Marineland chairman Cliff Church says about $600,000 has been raised to redevelop the facility.

He says the council could still decide to back the plan to re-open Marineland as a wildlife sanctuary.
