Police believe missing pair at Banks Peninsula

A helicopter search of Banks Peninsula has failed to find a missing Christchurch mother and daughter.

Marilyn Zidich, 62, and Selina Madden, 35, have been missing from their home in the suburb of Belfast since Thursday.

Police are concerned for the pair but believe they left home of their own accord.

Senior Constable Sonya Lemmens said police have an indication the two women may gone to Banks Peninsula but an aerial seach on Saturday found no trace.

"Unfortunately we don't have a more specific area to allow land search teams to be put in however we have had police officers up there in patrol cars and on foot."

Senior Constable Lemmens said the women may be suffering from depression and Marilyn Zidich cannot walk without the assistance of a walking frame.

She said they are most likely travelling in their grey Fiat Tipo hatchback which has the personalised number plate 'ZIDICH'.
