Sooden files complaint against Israeli government

7:11 am on 29 September 2008

Auckland activist Harmeet Singh Sooden has filed a complaint against the Israeli government with authorities in New Zealand and Canada, and with the United Nations.

Harmeet Singh Sooden says he was detained and assaulted by the Israelis and denied entry to the occupied West Bank.

He says he was then told he was being deported, as a threat to Israel's security.

Mr Sooden, a Middle East activist, went to the region as a member of the International Solidarity Movement, which often tries to disrupt Israeli activity in the West Bank.

The joint Canadian and New Zealand citizen was taken hostage in Iraq on 26 November 2005, and freed in March 2006.
