Police are investigating the death of two people whose bodies were found on a remote South Canterbury property by motorcyclists competing in a charity event.
The bodies, believed to be of a man and a woman, were found on Sunday morning near a cycling track in the Waitaki Valley.
Waimate Main School principal Adam Rivett says two riders competing in the event that was organised by the school found the bodies.
Mr Rivett says the pair were found in an area of thick bush off the track, and one rider reported the woman as having injuries to her body.
He says bodies were found in a very isolated location and believes they could have been there for days.
Mr Rivett says more than 300 cyclists, including children, competed at the event, which was subsequently cancelled.
Police are trying to establish the identities of the pair.
