School bus hits rail bridge

Eight children and an adult are being treated for minor injuries after a school bus crashed into a rail bridge in Christchurch.

The bus from Woolston School hit an overhead rail bridge on Richardson Terrace, in Woolston, as it attempted to drive under it, smashing the windscreen.

There were 20 children on board at the time. Seven children and an adult were taken to Christchurch hospital with minor injuries from broken glass.

Police will investigate the cause of the accident.
