Gang associates arrested in drug investigation

Police in western Bay of Plenty have arrested six gang associates following a four-month investigation into cannabis cultivation.

The accused are charged with cultivating cannabis and possession for supply of the drug and also participation in a criminal group.

The arrests were carried out across Te Puke and Maketu districts on Wednesday morning.

Police say two sawn-off shotguns, ammunition and explosives were found along with 17kg of cannabis.

Four men aged between 18 and 29 and two women aged 27 and 29 will appear in Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.
