A man accused of murdering a service station attendant more than 30 years ago in Turangi has been committed to trial.

Menzies Hallett, 71, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in the High Court in Rotorua earlier this year.

He is accused of killing Rodney Tahu at a service station in August 1979.

Mr Hallett was excused from Thursday's court appearance.

The trial is set down to start on 22 April next year and is scheduled to take two weeks.
