Wellington police have found a gun they were searching for as part of an Armed Offenders Squad callout.
They say a series of threatening text messages led to armed officers being stationed on The Terrace, Willis Street and Ghuznee Street about 4pm on Tuesday.
It remains unclear who the messages were sent and received by.
Detectives earlier said two arrests had been made in a car park on Victoria Street and one man is in custody on Tuesday.
The man will appear in court on Wednesday charged with being unlawfully in possession of a firearm.
