Two CT scanners approved

Southern District Health Board has approved plans for two medical scanners to resolve a split between central Otago communities.

The decision was made after a year of debate and lobbying whether to base a CT scanner machine at Dunstan Hospital at Clyde or at the Lakes District hospital at Queenstown.

The board on Thursday morning unanimously agreed to fund the operation of scanners at both sites - at Dunstan immediately and in Queenstown in two years.

But the board will fund only the operating costs and the plan relies on both communities raising $1.4 million to buy and install the scanners.
