Visitors to this year's Hokitika Wildfoods Festival generated $6.5 million for the West Coast economy, a report has concluded.
The festival, held in March, attracted 10,800 people, and of those 10,000 were visiting the region especially for the festival.
They stayed an average of 2.5 days and each spent $540, research by BERL has found.
Festival organiser Mike Keenan says the report is a fantastic endorsement of the 20-year-old festival.
He says local community groups also benefit from the festival, with $110,000 raised by community organisations that operated stalls.
