4:17 pm on 11 June 2012

Police have recaptured a prisoner after he was found hiding in the ceiling of a Christchurch house.

Jayson Nopera Rule escaped from a court holding cell at Nga Hau e Wha Marae on 1 May after kicking in a cell door and running off.

Inspector Derek Erasmus says the 31-year-old Christchurch man was found early on Saturday after police received information from a member of the public.

Mr Erasmus says Rule was found in a house in the suburb of Waltham hiding under insulation batts in the ceiling and did not resist arrest.

Rule appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded in custody until 19 June. He faces charges of escaping custody, as well as assault and breach of home detention.
