Woman killed in Auckland car crash

A woman was killed when a car hit a tree in Blockhouse Bay in Auckland early on Saturday morning.

Natasha Ann Evans, 20, died on impact in the accident on Terry Street when she lost control of her car.

Witnesses told police the car was speeding before it left the road and hit the tree at about 3.30am.

In another incident in Auckland: a man, 40, is in hospital after crashing his car during a police pursuit.

The incident began shortly after 4am on Saturday, when the police say the man was seen speeding through the suburb of Glen Innes. They say the chase lasted about one minute and took place over a distance of about 2km.

The man, who received moderate to serious injuries, had to be cut free from the car when it crashed into the grounds of Sacred Heart College in Glendowie.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority is to be notified.

The Serious Crash Unit, which was called to the two incidents, has finished its investigations at both scenes.
