Treasury Secretary Gabriel Mahklouf refuses to investigate the department's handling of the Crown retail deposit guarantee despite a critical report from the Auditor-General.
Opposition MPs have questioned Mr Mahklouf about why he was not prepared to investigate how much money was lost because of the Treasury's poor monitoring of the scheme.
He says there is no point in the Treasury conducting its own inquiry.
