Dentists are now offering free dental services to adults at the Charity hospital in Canterbury.

The hospital in Harewood Road, Christchurch, already offers services including general surgery, family planning and counselling.

The Canterbury branch of the Dental Association says it began doing dentistry on Wednesday for those who can't afford to see a dentist and who are no longer able to be fitted in at the Christchurch hospital dental department.

So far, 25 dentists have joined a roster to offer free services and the assocoation expects demand to build quickly.
