The Wellington City Council has back-tracked on a proposed cut to Te Papa's annual grant after strong opposition by the national museum's supporters.
The council had suggested cutting funding from $2.25 million to $1 million.
After sustained protest at the weekend by museum supporters, it signalled a budget of $2 million.
However, at a council meeting on Thursday afternoon, the majority of councillors voted to keep the funding at $2.25 million.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says there were several reasons to keep the funding the same, including the strong public submissions.
