The fire service says a fire in a Bay of Plenty paddock was initially incorrectly reported as having been caused by a meteorite.
A spokesperson initially said the small paddock fire appeared to be caused by the falling projectile, following reports from witnesses near Awakeri.
But a spokesperson for the Edgecumbe Fire Brigade, who attended the incident, says it turned out to be just a rubbish fire.
