Random drug testing in new forestry code of practice

5:04 pm on 17 October 2008

A drug and alcohol code of practice for the forestry industry is being launched on Friday in Gisborne.

The main aim is to reduce fatalities and serious injuries caused by impaired workers.

The code includes introducing random drug testing.

While employees will not be tested every week, the Forest Owners Association says they can expect to be tested periodically.

The association believes the code will ultimately improve the industry's health and safety statistics.
