A charge of murder has been laid against a man accused of killing a businessman who went to the aid of a woman in central Auckland.
The 45-year-old sickness beneficiary has reappeared at Auckland District Court on Friday.
The accused was granted name suppression and remanded in custody until November. He was initially charged with assaulting a woman.
Austin Hemmings, 44, was stabbed to death in Mills Lane on 25 September while trying to help a woman in distress.
The woman was in the public gallery of the court for the accused's appearance.
