Eighty jobs are now expected to be cut at Christchurch's Red Bus Company due to the loss of several bus routes in the Canterbury Regional Council's recent tender round.
Red Bus learned in May that it will lose six routes from November.
The company on Monday broke the news to staff of impending job losses.
Chief executive Paul McNoe says up to 120 jobs were initially on the line, but the latest proposal involves the loss of 60 driving positions and 20 support staff.
He says Red Bus is not offering voluntary redundancy and staff will know by the end of the month whether or not they have a job.
