Parole has been denied to a man in prison for having sex with a Rotorua teenager, who later died after receiving an onslaught of abusive text messages from his wife.
In August 2010, Pelesasa Tiumalu was sentenced to four years three months' jail for sexual conduct with a young person.
Hayley Ann Fenton, who was 15, had been in a relationship with Tiumalu, 12 years her senior, before she died in July 2009 from the toxic effects of drugs she took.
The coroner says before Miss Fenton's death she received vicious and extraordinarily abusive text messages from Tiumalu's wife, who was given a suspended sentence.
The Parole Board says Tiumalu has been exceptionally well-behaved in jail but does not have an approved address needed to be granted parole.
