Three young men were killed and another critically injured when the car they were in hit a tree near Hamilton.
Their vehicle failed to take a bend early on Friday and ran off the road, hitting a tree.
The men are all believed to be in their late teens or early 20's.
The injured man is in critical condition in Waikato Hospital.
Gordonton Road between Boyd and Borman roads, just north-east of Hamilton, remains closed while police carry out a scene investigation.
