Longley killer to appeal conviction and sentence

The man found guilty of killing a New Zealand woman wants to appeal against both his conviction and his sentence.

Elliot Turner,  20, was sentenced in a British court to a minimum of 16 years in prison for strangling his girlfriend Emily Longley, 17, in a jealous rage on 7 May last year.

A jury at Winchester Crown Court in May this year convicted him of murder following nine hours of deliberations.

The court was told that Turner was aggressive, controlling, and manipulative and had been making threats to kill her the night before she died.

The defence said he acted in self-defence.

The Solent News Agency in Bournemouth reports Turner has instructed his legal team to formally apply for permission to challenge the verdict and sentence.

Turner's parents were convicted of perverting the course of justice, for destroying and removing evidence. They will be sentenced on 14 July.
