Police have charged a man with the murder of a Christchurch woman who has died three weeks after being attacked in a street.
Michelle Mary Lawrence died on Saturday after being attacked in the suburb of Linwood early on 10 June. She had been in hospital since the assault.
Timothy Joseph Foley was charged with her murder on Monday. The 52-year-old had previously been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Detective Senior Sergeant Corrie Parnell says provisional results from a post-mortem indicate that Ms Lawrence died as a result of complications from head injuries.
Mr Foley is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday.
