Local Government NZ says no plans to sell assets

Updated at 3:00 pm on 2 July 2012

Local Government New Zealand president Lawrence Yule says he does not know of any councils planning partial asset sales.

Local Government Minister David Carter says councils should consider a mixed ownership model for assets as a way of raising funds and avoiding debt.

Mr Yule says councils are always looking at ways to re-jig their balance sheets, but there are no big plans for asset sales.

He says there are not many councils that have significant assets, such as port companies, that could be put up for sale.
