Monorail protesters line minister's Fiordland route

About 100 protesters have lined a Fiordland road to show a government minister they object to two tourist projects.

Opponents braved cold conditions on Wednesday to wave placards along the route from Te Anau to Manapouri as Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson passed.

She stopped briefly to respond to members of the group Save Fiordland who are fighting plans for a tunnel from Queenstown to Milford Sound and a monorail into the tourist area.

Ms Wilkinson was travelling to a day long trip on Doubtful Sound.

Group spokesperson Daphne Taylor says ministers do not visit Fiordland very often so the community took the rare chance to show how they feel.
