Life sentence for man who killed former lover

Updated at 5:22 pm on 4 July 2012

A truck driver who admitted murdering his former lover has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Christchurch High Court.

Keith Bonner, 53, pleaded guilty in May to the murder of 46-year-old bar worker Tracey Morris in January this year.

He has been given a minimum non-parole period of 13 years.

Ms Morris' body was found in the back of a car parked near the Christchurch Airport by a passing jogger days after her death.

In sentencing, Justice Lang told Bonner the term reflects the wanton violence towards someone who had been a very dear friend and who had done nothing to deserve it.
