Police investigate Hamilton armed robbery

10:13 am on 5 July 2012

A Hamilton fast-food restaurant has been robbed at gunpoint by two men, police say.

Four workers at Burger King at the Lynden Shopping Centre in Chartwell were confronted on Wednesday night by two men wearing balaclavas, one of whom had a firearm.

Police said the men demanded money and fled on foot with a large sum of cash.

A police dog was able to track them for a while before losing the scent.

Police haven't ruled out that they may have had a car parked nearby to aid their escape.

Officers are examining CCTV footage from the area.

The scene remained cordoned off on Thursday morning.
