Hearing on High Country rents extended

8:59 am on 27 October 2008

A Land Valuation Tribunal hearing of a challenge by South Island High Country farmers against proposed rent increases for pastoral leases, has been extended.

The farmers are opposing the outcome of a Government review which would increase rents by up to 600% and include amenity values in calculating the rents.

Minaret Station has been chosen as a test case to hear the dispute before the tribunal.

The hearing, which started in Dunedin two weeks ago, was due to finish on Friday.

It will now continue until 31 October to finish hearing evidence from pastoral leaseholders.
