Facebook comments 'an employment matter'

Updated at 12:32 pm on 9 July 2012

A foundation which aims to strengthen ties with Asia says it is dealing with comments by one of its senior managers on a web page as an employment matter.

Asia New Zealand Foundation education director Vanessa Lee made the comments on her personal Facebook page while travelling in Asia.

Ms Lee said she was changing hotel rooms because she was having racist feelings about a Chinese family of about 100 people who had moved in next door.

She later explained a couple were having their wedding at the hotel.

Asia New Zealand regularly draws public attention to attitudes and policies it believes are racist.

Communications director John Saunders says the comments were made on Ms Lee's private Facebook page, but are being followed up as an internal employment matter.
