Electronic filing on trial for pharmacists

The Ministry of Health now has a web-based service which will allow pharmacies to submit subsidy claims online.

The system is being trialled by some pharmacists in Auckland. It will be available to 1000 registered pharmacists from December in an effort to improve efficiency.

The Pharmacy Guild says the system should be more reliable than the current one, which requires pharmacists to post disks and receive paper based returns.

The guild says customers will not be charged more.

The ministry says the system could eventually be extended to receive claims from laboratories, maternity services and dentists.
