Carter scores twice to boost England's World Cup hopes

There were plenty of goals and a couple of surprise results in the FIFA under 17 women's football World Cup on Thursday.

Favourites the United States were beaten 3-2 by Japan, France beat Paraguay 6-2, England beat Brazil 3-0 and Nigeria upset South Korea 2-1.

At Wellington's Westpac Stadium, fifteen-year-old Dan Carter celebrated wildly after helping England to victory over the Samba stars with two goals.

The second round of group matches gets underway on Saturday with New Zealand playing Denmark and needing a good result to have a chance of making the quarter-finals.
