An Auckland man says items were taken from his home by New Zealand police, who said they were investigating an alleged assassination plot against Fiji's interim Prime Minister.
Former Fiji Cabinet Minister Rajesh Singh told Radio New Zealand News three plain-clothed police officers searched his property on Tuesday, and accused two of his friends of planning to kill Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
One of the alleged plotters is former Fiji Army Colonel Ratu Tevita Mara, who has denied the allegation.
Mr Singh says Mr Bainimarama has tight security, and anyone attempting such a plot would have to be very stupid.
A police spokesperson told Radio New Zealand News they would not comment and referred inquiries to the Prime Minister's office.
A spokesperson for John Key, who is also the Minister in charge of the Security Intelligence Service, said it was an operational matter, and his office would not comment on security and intelligence matters.
