A new community is to be established near Rolleston, on the outskirts of Christchurch, with homes for about 4000 people.
The first of more than 1000 lots will go on sale at the eastern side of Rolleston on Saturday, the first step of a $200 million subdivision to be called Faringdon.
Hughes Developments marketing director Bruce Harvey says Faringdon has full consents and will eventually cover 80 hectares in the Selwyn district.
He expects most of the sections to be bought by homeowners displaced by the earthquakes.
Mr Harvey says earthworks are already underway on the site.
