A child is dead after a house fire in Porirua on Wednesday morning.
Inspector John Spence says the girl, aged two, died in the fire.
Two adults and three other children who were in the house at the time, were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
The Fire Service says the house in Hereford Street in the suburb of Cannons Creek was ablaze when it arrived just before 10am.
