Hesson new Black Caps' coach

Mike Hesson has been announced as the next coach of the New Zealand men's cricket team.

The 37-year-old former Otago and Kenya coach takes over the Black Caps from the outgoing John Wright.

Hesson's first duties once the team arrive home from the West Indies will be next month's tour of India and September's Twenty20 World Cup.

Hesson says lack of consistency is the Black Caps' biggest flaw, but he's not exactly clear about how he's going to fix it.

He says he doesn't envisage having any problems working with the national director of cricket, John Buchanan.

The outgoing Wright has been critical of Buchanan's power over the day-to-day running of the Black Caps and cites his clashes of philosophy with the Australian for his departure.

However, Hesson says he's not anticipating any ego clashes with Buchanan.

The appointment takes Hesson, who coached Otago for six years and had a brief stint with Kenya last year, until the end of the 2015 World Cup.
