Auckland DHB gets funding to target efficiency

Auckland District Health Board is to be given a further $2.5 million to reduce waiting times for patients and increase the number of operations.

Health Minister Tony Ryall says the money will be targeted at systems that help the board run its daily theatre list.

The aim is to reduce waiting times and give patients more certainty about when they will have their surgery.

The funding will help the DHB continue its work in the past two years to improve its surgical services.

Mr Ryall says many patients are now assessed over the phone for ear, nose and throat surgeries, which has reduced the time outpatients have to spend in the waiting room.
