A nuclear density meter containing radioactive material, stolen in Christchurch last week along with a ute, has been handed in to police.
Detective Sergeant Mark Keane says someone brought it to Christchurch South Police Station on Monday morning.
The Troxler model 3440 meter was intact and appears undamaged but the white Ford Courier ute, Registration WM1511, is still missing.
It was reported stolen from New Brighton on 17 July, and was clearly labelled with "Class 7 Radioactive' signs.
Investigators have spoken to the person who turned in the meter but have yet to establish what involvement, if any, that person had in the theft.
