Police say there will be changes to the Coromandel cycling event in which a man was seriously injured last week.
Cyclist Brett Burton suffered head and spinal injuries after he collided with a milk tanker during the 200km K2 bike race on Saturday. He is in a stable conditon in Auckland Hospital.
Police are not apportioning blame for the crash, however, they say there could be some improvements to make the course and rules clearer.
Senior Sergeant Sandra Veneables says police and organisers have agreed on a number of measures for next year, including more signs, marshals and information about the event on the website.
Ms Veneables says the event is generally well run and very important for the region.
The police serious crash unit is investigating the incident.
