Air NZ cutting main-route fares

Air New Zealand has lowered airfares on key domestic routes as it prepares for a big rise in seat numbers

The airline says seat-only fares, where passengers can have only hand-luggage, will fall by between 14% and 30%.

The new fares apply on flights to and from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin.

An airline spokesperson says prices on all other main trunk routes will also fall by between 11% and 40% and fares for regional routes are also under review.

About 320,000 extra seats will become available in the coming year as the airline adds larger airplanes to its fleet
