Police act on new information in Jane Furlong case

Updated at 5:12 pm on 29 July 2012

Police investigating the death of the Auckland teenager, Jane Furlong, are focusing on an area close to where she lived in Onehunga.

Ms Furlong went missing in 1993 from Auckland's red light district on Karangahape Road.

A homicide investigation is now underway after her skeleton was found in Port Waikato in May.

Detective Inspector Mark Benefield, who is leading the investigation, says a team is digging up an area near Ms Furlong's old flat on Heretaunga Avenue in Onehunga.

Police say they are acting on information that has recently come to them, but would not give any indication of what the Specialist Search team is looking for.

They say the search probably won't continue on Monday.
