Several roads are open again in South Canterbury after heavy rainfall flooded state highways and triggered a swift rise in river levels.
State Highway 8 from Albury to Lake Tekapo is open again, but the Transport Agency advises caution along State Highway 83 from Duntroon north-west of Oamaru due to flooding.
More than 200mm of rain has fallen since Monday afternoon.
South Canterbury Regional Council says light drizzle is predicted throughout the day and warns people to remain wary around rivers.
