Tourists expect friendly New Zealanders

Tourists visiting New Zealand have high expectations the locals will be friendly - and most of the time, they are going home satisfied.

A Ministry of Tourism survey shows meeting friendly and welcoming people is a key expectation for tourists, especially those from Germany and the United States.

The ministry says the results show keeping a high standard of hospitality is essential for the tourism industry.

Tourists gave an average score of 8.3 out of 10 for the friendliness of people they meet in New Zealand.
