Banned herbicide found at Christchurch tip

The discovery of high levels of a banned herbicide in garden waste at a tip north of Christchurch has prompted a reminder to gardeners to stop using it.

The sale of several lawn herbicides containing the chemical clopyralid has been banned since 2008.

The levels found at Selwyn District Council's tip mean the waste can not be turned into compost.

The council says anyone still using the herbicide on lawns should not put grass clippings in their organic waste bins but dispose of them around trees instead.
